Trastevere: The Heart of Rome
“Er Core De Roma”
Do you know how I spend my Sundays in Rome? In Trastevere, Rome’s best-kept secret!
From early morning, Porta Portese, in the heart of Trastevere hosts Rome’s flea market, where you can find 100s of stalls with second-hand clothes, antique-trade articles and all kind of rubbish! It is so big and wide that we spend all morning there till lunch time… For lunch, I usually go with my friends to Bibli, a library where they offer a quick-lunch while reading any kind of books!
Always open in the small streets there are craftsmen shops as well as street-shops with articles from all over the world. I really can say it is a multicultural district!
Waiting for the Happy Hour time, you can visit different places, like Santa Maria in Trastevere (in the same square), the main Trastevere church where you can feel the Medieval atmosphere with the exposed mosaics, or the Sant’Agata church, which the well-known statue of the Madonna de Noantri, patron of the trasteverine district is found. You can even eat some fresh fruit from the street-kiosks or in the hot summer days, taste the “grattachecca”.
The place I like to visit most however is the Lorcan O’Neil Gallery, which offers exhibition of various international artists.
Now comes the moment everyone is waiting for: the Happy Hour! To drink a fine glass of white wine and eat some delicious “pecorino romano” the perfect place is San Callisto Caffè; but it is at Freni e Frizioni where all Romans go, here you can eat every kind of delicacy, from appetizers to pasta, and sit on the small stone-wall to chat with friends till late… the end of a perfect Sunday in Trastevere, Rome!
I have just started an internship at an Italian school in Rome, I love my job and my city, because Rome has something for everyone and at night I’m able to go out and have such a great time!
Now it’s Happy Hour time… so, guess where I’m going!!

Hi!
Rome is great, my boyfriend moved there last year so I got the chance to visit it (I had never been before). Everywhere you go there is something to see, my favourite area is the triangle Altare della Patria, Fori Imperiali and Colosseo… right in the heart of the city! Not to mention the many shops and restaurants… I’ll probably move there myself this winter, I can’t wait! Emanuela, if you want to try new places I can ask my boyfriend for advice!
Enjoy Rome!
