Italian summer course in Florence
(14-17 years old)What better place for young students to learn Italian than surrounded by the Romanesque and Gothic cityscape of Florence? The Tuscan capital — still partially enclosed by its 13th century walls, holds some of the greatest masterpieces the world has ever seen. Florence is the ideal destination for students aged 14-17 wishing to learn the Italian language not just on its own, but as an opportunity to gain first-hand experience with beautiful culture of the grandiose city.
The city has something for everyone — a wealth of history in the arts with Florentine sculptors like Michelangelo, and painters such as Leonardo da Vinci — or the Arno River for those who appreciate the serenity of nature. And there’s more than enough for history buffs — like the 15th century wine windows that were once used to avoid the spread of the bubonic plague still scattered around the city today.
Our Junior school in Florence is within a few hundred metres of the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella — a grandiose structure founded by the Dominican Order in the 13th century.

The 2 or 4 week intensive Italian language course is composed of 20 lessons per week — 4 lessons per day in the mornings with cultural activities in the afternoon. Lessons are held Monday to Friday.
The young student’s summer course aims to develop the following four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will study the foundations of the Italian language as they engage in the interactive lessons meant to keep students interested and engaged. Our school offers this course for varying levels of proficiency (A1-C1), so no matter the student’s starting level, there’ll be a group for them. Group sizes are a maximum of 12 students, ensuring everyone has their learning needs met as much as possible during their course.
Accommodation
Students will stay with a host family for the duration of their course in a shared room with full board. Breakfast and dinner are provided by the host, and lunch will be provided by the school. This allows for more immersion as students will be staying with a local Italian family they can practice with outside of class. Host families are either within walking distance or a maximum of 15 minutes by bus from the school.
Reservations for host families are typically from the Sunday before the course start date to the Saturday following the course end date.
Supervision
There is guaranteed supervision from school staff during all activities. Furthermore, emergency contacts are shared between participants, parents and host families.
Activities
Students will spend their afternoons participating in enriching activities and excursions, giving them access to everything Florence has to offer! Visits to galleries such as the Uffizi Gallery, Accademia Gallery and sights like the Santa Maria Novella may appear on the itinerary, along with more of Florence’s many iconic marvels.
On Saturdays, students have the opportunity to go on full day excursions to other gorgeous Italian cities like Pisa, Cinque Terre, Lucca and Siena.
Students will also partake in art workshops at the Fine Arts Academy and an Italian cooking lesson to learn the ins and outs of Italian cuisine
Experiencing the abundance of culture, history, art and life Florence has to offer will not only allow students to practice their Italian in practical settings but give them the ability to form more meaningful connections with their peers and the surrounding area. Students will return home with arsenal of new skills and memories they’ll hold for a lifetime.
