The small city of Ravenna is an idyllic place to learn the gorgeous Italian language. Away from all the tourist hotspots in Italy, Ravenna’s charm lies in its quiet and cosy ambiance with its café filled streets and Old Town centre. There’s plenty to see and do in Ravenna, and plenty of kind locals to chat with and build up your confidence in conversational Italian.
The city has a longstanding history, with three major eras in Italian history under its belt. From the Western Roman Empire to the Byzantine Empire, every stone in Ravenna is steeped in history. The sights are no less impressive than more popular destinations in the country, with its own 18th century Baroque cathedral that was originally built back in the 5th century, and more architectural beauties across the cityscape. Ravenna has a total of eight UNESCO World Heritage Monuments, from intricate chapels with vibrant mosaics to an Ostrogoth Mausoleum — each site a testament to Ravenna’s enduring presence in history.

Club 50+ course in Ravenna
The Intensive Italian language course is 20 lessons per week — with lessons taking place in the mornings and followed by immersive activities in the afternoons and evenings. Italian lessons are in mixed aged groups of the same proficiency level in groups of 8 students or less. Italian lessons will cover some of the fundamentals of the language such as grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Smaller classes sizes will also allow students to forge closer connections to their peers and instructors — keeping the learning environment more relaxed.
Accommodation
Students will stay with a host family during their course, making it a truly immersive experience. All hosts are local native Italian speakers, happy to help students practice their conversational skills outside of class time. Host Family stays are single rooms on a Bed & Breakfast basis. All Host Families live within easy walking or cycling distance of the school — so it’ll be a quick trip to get to your Italian lessons!
Activities
Immersive activities are part of the Club 50+ course in Ravenna, with a cultural activity programme scheduled after daily morning Italian lessons. The activity programme will only include students aged 55 or more. Activities includes guided tours of some of Ravenna’s UNESCO Heritage Monuments, wine tasting and sampling of local cuisine, a seaside farewell lunch, and a tour of Cesenatico.
Cesenatico is a fishing village on the Adriatic coast just south of Ravenna. The tour will include Italian Aperitifs on the canal designed by the great Leonardo da Vinci in 1502.

Airport transfers can be arranged at an additional fee from Bologna Airport, Forlì Airport, or Rimini Airport.
