Learning German and hiking in the Austrian Alps

Great Fun on our Antibes Junior Course!

Antibes is such a nice town, right by the sea. You can walk on the sea shore every day, after class, or around the old town and the harbour, all more beautiful than the other and the sun shines every day!

You will be very tempted to buy many things (sometimes a little expensive for students) to bring back for friends and family.

The school is small and very pleasant, classes are nice with few students in each and it’s great to study.

Antibes

The market in Antibes is the most beautiful and interesting I have ever seen! There are stalls of herbs and spices, traditional baskets, meats, cheeses and all the things you would expect to find. The fruit and veg is so fresh and colourful, nothing like the stuff you get in supermarkets back in the UK. You can even smell the tomatoes as you walk by!

There are herbs from Provence that are so good, my dad bought several packets because he so fell in love with the flavour last time he was in Antibes! The people are friendly and passionate about their produce, and it was very interesting practicing my rather shaky French with these lovely locals.

Loving life (and work!) in Antibes, France

I just finished my work exchange program in Antibes, and oh, what an experience…

Living in Antibes feels like living in a painting: little coloured points on the left, the “Fort Carré’s” covered lights on the right: the best place to take a midnight swim! It is true, the night in Antibes is absolutely unique.

I came here for an exchange program with the school in Antibes. The exchange program consists of exchanging working hours for accommodation and French courses.

Paris – the most beautiful city in the world

I had always known that Paris was a magnificent city, but it was only upon my arrival at the school to take French lessons that I began to understand why Paris is called “the most beautiful city in the world”!

How lucky I am! Now, freshly put up in my typically French host family, I am on my way to school. Arriving by underground, bus or on foot, I discover that school is situated in a traditional building, at the very centre of Paris, near to the Louvre, in a vibrant area with many different types of restaurants…

I am welcomed by a dynamic, professional and friendly team. Then now, after the presentation of our classes, here I am in the school cafeteria, which is decorated like a real Parisian bistro, chatting confidently with a teacher.

After that, I greatly enjoyed myself answering a cultural quiz with all the other students. It’s a very communicative way to learn!

You’ll never be bored in Bordeaux!

One of my friends had spent a year in Bordeaux and she had told me what a lovely city it was so I expected to enjoy my time there – but I was surprised just how much I loved it! Lovely architecture, historic buildings, restaurant after restaurant and lively nightlife – what’s not to love!

During my trip I stayed in a studio apartment in one of the school’s ApartHotels and was pleased with the standard of the room and the facilities. I was a bit nervous about being able to find the school in Bordeaux as I have such a bad sense of direction, so I decided to take the bus the first day. However, I soon realised how easy it was to reach the school whether I walked or took the bus. The staff at the school were so friendly and helpful too. There’s also a comfortable student lounge where you can chill out on the sofa on your break and when the sun is shining you can make the most of the school’s garden.

If you only take one thing in your suitcase to Paris, take this…

Okay, so, you’re off to Paris for your French course. So what to pack? As you rummage through drawers, you find old travel companions – passport, money belt, travel alarm. None of which you will use after your first day there. Pen, paper, pocket dictionary…yes, all useful for your course, so go on, throw them in. But before you close that case, there’s one more thing…

A perfect day in Aix-en-Provence

That the famous painter Paul Cezanne was born in Aix-en-Provence can’t be a coincidence. If I could paint I’d probably also feel the urge to immortalise all the beautiful things in Aix on a painting. But instead of paintings I’ve got like a million pictures from my stay in Aix. I’ve got pictures from the colorful market place, the fountains, the night clubs and the small cafe where I used to sit for hours.

Eating out in Paris? Here’s a few tips from a local…

Need some tips on where to eat out during your language course in Paris? Well, Paris is just like London: there is a wide choice, with restaurants from all over the world. That’s quite normal for a capital city! But just let me tell you about what makes Paris special!

I just spent the weekend there, and it’s starting to be the season for sitting outside a terrace café. I love to go there in the morning, and have a crepe (French pancake) for breakfast. This is typically French (Breton to be accurate), but French usually love it, especially me! If you want to try it, there is no need to look very far, because Paris is full of terrace cafés, whether near the Eiffel Tower, Montmartre, or the Champs Elysées! The advantage of the morning is that there are not too many people, there is traffic but it’s not too noisy, and if there is bright sunshine, then it really is a must-do! They usually stay open and busy quite late, for anyone wishing a nice cold drink after seeing Paris by night.

Taking it Nice’n’Easy…

There’s only one word to describe Nice – fabulous! Walking through the port, daydreaming that all those glitzy super yachts might one day be mine, supping café crème on promenade des Anglais and people watching from behind my en vogue oversized (and fake) Chanel sunglasses, day trips to chicest of the chic Monaco, palm trees swaying in the warm Mediterranean breeze… ahh yes, I could have gotten used to the good life on the French Riviera.

Sadly, my French course in Nice only lasted 3 weeks and when it was time to leave my lovely French host, I actually cried! 25 years old and I was blubbing like a baby! I had a great host, she was in her 40s and lived alone so it was just she and I in the apartment – we got on amazingly!
